Dr. Kimberly Regan

Hi, I’m Dr. Kimberly Regan.

I’d like to share with you my homeless to Harvard story.

My lifelong dream is to publish literary works that change the narrative for women. I want to offer stories of hope and inspiration.

Through my first book, a purposeful memoir titled, UNBROKEN Road to Freedom: Finding Strength to Fight When Life Beats You Down, I provide insight into changing the trajectory of generational poverty, oppression, and abuse found within systemic family dysfunction.

Homeless. We found respite from the inner-city streets in Uncle Freddie’s unfinished basement while the adults used and sold drugs upstairs.

The basement portrayed the severity of our poverty: exposed pipes, insulation, electrical wires, and dangling lightbulbs above the mattress that lay on the cold, damp cement floor. It felt cold and dirty, so did I.

I moved eight times and switched schools six within two years. I internalized being a social outcast and took responsibility for my siblings at an early age. I dropped out of school within a year and ran away on multiple occasions before placing myself in foster care.

Mother forced me to marry a dangerous abuser at fifteen years old. By seventeen, I fled for my life and ended up in hiding in Florida. While I lived a year in paradise, living in hiding really isn’t living a life true to my authentic self.

I realized I had to return and fight for my life and pursue an education. Shouldn’t everyone have an opportunity to pursue an education?

Ultimately I followed my dream. I received an undergraduate degree, then a master’s in early childhood education, followed by an Ed. D. in educational leadership and post-doc certificate in early childhood leadership from Harvard.

I also attended the Stanford writing program which provided an opportunity to hone the craft of novel writing with a cohort of peers. Subsequently, I received a certificate for professional editing through the University of California, Berkeley which provides a quality foundation for peer-reviewing the work of colleagues as they continue their advancement.

I am a writer, editor, and leader at the local, state, and national levels.

I started the first K-8 charter school in Nevada and have served Nevada for 23+ years as an educator.

I work with at-risk children and their families toward changing the trajectory of poverty through education.

As an education influencer and visionary who is changing the world with grit, perseverance, and tenacity, I’m here to inspire YOU to follow your dreams, no matter how and where you were raised.

Follow YOUR road to freedom. You’re worth it.
